Anna Smyrk has dropped her quietly introspective new single, ‘Line by Line’. Her voice is sweet and subtle, with inflections of innocence placing it above a simple, gently building accompaniment. The chords she chooses are raw and heartbreaking, while the gradual additions of layering electronic drones bring a glimmer of light amongst the darkness. “I was flying home after a tour around Germany, feeling exhausted and really missing my dad, who had passed away a few months earlier,” she says. “I watched a sad movie on the plane, then the chorus came into my head while the credits were rolling in the dark. I locked myself in the bathroom for a few minutes, singing quietly into my phone, and that was the seed of the song.” Keep an eye out for more from Anna Smyrk over the next few months.
