Manchester/London seven-piece The Slow Country have revealed their brand new folk horror single, ‘In The Mud’. The band have already established themselves as one of the most interesting bands in the British underground, with this track only acting as further proof. It’s a gnarly blend of folk-laden indie, with washes of feedback and blurry crescendos fighting against jagged strings and the drone of accordion chords. Its maximalism feels cathartic; a reflection of its lyrics: “It becomes harder to picture all the features of someone's face after they die, and the image of them in your mind grows fuzzy and blurry. For my grandma, I find it increasingly difficult to remember what her hands looked like, the details of her eyes, or what she would likely be wearing now. I never stop missing her, but the clarity of her image is fading, and it’s an intensely savage thing to deal with. Just as you think you're getting over the worst of it, you suddenly become so angry at yourself for the betrayal of your memory - and the pain of grief has morphed into something worse.” Keep an eye out for the vinyl release of Firing Line/In The Mud on April 24th, 2026, via Heist or Hit.
