Manchester/London seven-piece The Slow Country have revealed their brand new folk horror single, ‘In The Mud’. The band have already established themselves as one of the most interesting bands in the British underground, with this track only acting as further proof. It’s a gnarly blend of folk-laden indie, with washes of feedback and blurry crescendos fighting against jagged strings and the drone of accordion chords. Its maximalism feels cathartic; a reflection of its lyrics: “It becomes harder to picture all the features of someone's face after they die, and the image of them in your mind grows fuzzy and blurry. For my grandma, I find it increasingly difficult to remember what her hands looked like, the details of her eyes, or what she would likely be wearing now. I never stop missing her, but the clarity of her image is fading, and it’s an intensely savage thing to deal with.
