‘The Radiator’ is the latest single from Bristol duo, and one of the most exciting bands in the UK right now, Getdown Services. Their sound sits somewhere between groovy funk influences, hard rock riffs and memorable pop hooks. This particular cut leans further into the disco side of their sound, with a four-to-the-floor drum pattern underpinning a bass-forward groove, and the squeal of synths counteracting their almost conversationally catchy vocal lines. The final minute bursts into life; a blaring, electronic freak-out that juxtaopses the light groove of the intro. “This song is about only picking fights that you know you’ll win. It came about because the heating wouldn’t come on once and I thought about when we bang things to make them work. Ben once told me that he used to threaten his PlayStation 1 when games wouldn’t load quick enough. The sense of victory you get when you feel like you’ve physically intimidated an inanimate object into doing what you want is bizarre and pathetic and really funny.” The band are heading out on a nearly sold-out North American tour this April.
