Following the spectral of ‘Awestruck’ last year, ‘Marionette Lines’ pairs Broadcast-y vocals with deep electronic production. Metallic, atmospheric and sharp, there’s a sinister undercurrent to vocalist Ellie Gray’s dream-like lyricism as they explain: “A clown-faced girl drifts through a grey, hungover day, her face drooping as invisible strings steer her dissociative steps, and her ‘ill organs faint under overcast skies.’” Strikingly committed to their unique artistic vision, Robbie & Mona exist in a realm outside of expectations and never fail to deliver something dazzling.
